North Shore Hebrew Academy Receives New Sefer Torah

Since 1954, North Shore Hebrew Academy has been an important part of Jewish life in and around the Great Neck community.

For years, the Academy served the Jewish community as an elementary school, providing an important educational foundation for its youngest members. In 2001, the Academy founded its high school program, continuing to guide students throughout their important teenage years. With its dedication to providing a quality academic education as well as a quality Jewish education, focusing on the Hebrew language and the support of the State of Israel, the program has been a success, and continued to grow. Within five years of its creation, the North Shore Hebrew Academy's high school program was ready for expansion, and a new wing was built.

Yoram Eliyahu, an Israeli native living on Long Island with his growing family, may be best known as a real estate developer, an activist in the support of his home country, and in the Jewish community at large. Upon hearing of North Shore Hebrew Academy's plans to build a new wing, Eliyahu was impressed with its success so far, and interested as to how he could help support this worthy cause. In acknowledgement of the importance of a good education, including a strong base in the Jewish faith, he donated a Sefer Torah to the growing school upon the opening of the new wing. Including Eliyahu's donation, a total of twelve scrolls were donated to the Academy, and are still in use today.

The North Shore Hebrew Academy is of particular importance to Yoram Eliyahu, as his children have attended the Academy. His family has seen first-hand the school's dedication to education, students and the Jewish community. The Eliyahu Eliyahu family continues to be supportive members of the Academy's community.
