Early Influences

Yoram Eliyahu's drive to participate in charitable works and philanthropy had its roots in his childhood upbringing by hard-working and observant parents. Many events have continued to shape his desire to help improve conditions for others, resulting in his dedicating a great deal of time and funding to charitable causes.

Yoram Eliyahu recalls being inspired as a young man by volunteers from Chabad, an international Jewish education and outreach movement with over 3,600 institutions worldwide. Chabad provides activities that enhance Jewish life through schools, camps, community centers and synagogues.

Over the course of the three years that Yoram served in the Israeli army, his unit was visited by volunteers from Chabad, who provided food and drink for the holidays and lifted the troops' morale with song and dance. Yoram was moved and inspired by their selflessness.

Upon coming to America, Yoram Eliyahu visited the headquarters of Chabad in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and had the opportunity to be impressed anew with the group. At that time, Rabbi Lubavitch Menachem Mendel Schneerson would provide his wine blessing ceremony three times a year, and it was at one of these times that Yoram had visited. He had the pleasure of personally meeting Rabbi Schneerson, who inspired him with his kindness during their meeting. Yoram continued his affiliation with Chabad by returning for every wine blessing ceremony he held since then.

Yoram Eliyahu and his family continue to be active supporters of the Chabad movement today. They are members of Kings Point Chabad. One of his projects there was to work diligently to bring a famous cantor from Israel to the congregation. But Yoram hasn't limited himself to serving only his own community. He and his family can often be found participating in the community service activities of Chabad of Flushing as well.
